The Budapest Treaty was adopted in 1977 and governs patent deposit processes involving microorganisms. When an invention involves a microorganism or the use of a specific microorganism, a copy of the microorganism must be deposit in a specialized institute.

Identification of yeast strains
The DBVPG Collection offers a complete service of identification of yeast strains using molecular taxonomy techniques [sequencing of the D1 / D2 domain of the 26S rRNA gene and of the Internal Transcribed Spacers (ITS 1&2 region), including the 5.8S rRNA gene].

Culture lyophilization for third parties
Yeasts conserved at 4°C under lyophilized form are generally viable for a few years. Under these conditions the problems of genetic instability are undoubtedly quite insignificant.

The DBVPG Collection accepts two different forms of yeast and yeast-like organisms preservation: deposit in the public collection and safe deposit.

All the cultures listed in the catalogue are available on request for educational and research purposes, while only some are also available for commercial purposes, subject to specific agreement between the DBVPG Collection and the applicant institution/company.
