The DBVPG Collection accepts two different forms of yeast and yeast-like organisms preservation: deposit in the public collection and safe deposit.

Before starting the filing procedures, please consult the page on the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol.

The DBVPG Collection accepts yeast and yeast-like organisms of taxonomic, biochemical, physiological, biotechnological, environmental, and ecological interest for inclusion in the public collection.

The deposit is free and the material will be included in the public catalogue and available to be supplied to the scientific community upon request.

The DBVPG Collection accepts only yeasts and yeast-like organisms belonging to risk groups 1 and 2 according to the classification of Directive 2000/54/EC of the European Parliament, and of the Council of 18 September 2000 on the protection of workers against exposure to biological agents. Highly pathogenic microorganisms belonging to risk groups 3 and 4 cannot be accepted.

Generally, the strains must be provided as pure cultures and supplemented by all possible information regarding their origin, nutritional requirements, genetic data, which must be reported on the appropriate access form (Material Deposit Agreement – MDA).

In order to ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, any relevant information must be provided, evaluated and archived by the DBVPG Collection. It is therefore crucial to provide as much detail as possible about the geographical origin of the isolates and their terms and conditions for use, and to provide the relevant documents associated with the strains, including material transfer agreements (MTA), prior informed consent (PIC), terms of mutual agreement (MAT), or other documents such as collection or export permits of landowners, park authorities, etc.

It should be noted that, if the provided information will not be sufficient to determine whether or not the isolates fall under the legislation relating to the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol  for the sharing of the benefits deriving from their use (ABS), or other regulatory requirements, the DBVPG Collection may reject the material of which the deposit is requested.

Please, follow the instructions below to deposit one or more yeast or yeast-like organism/s in the DBVPG public collection:

1. fill the Material Deposit Agreement (MDA); at the end of the filling work, the form will be automatically sent to the curator of the DBVPG Collection who will carefully evaluate the request;
2. download the newly completed MDA in pdf format;
3. wait for the authorisation to the deposit which will be sent to the applicant by the curator of the DBVPG Collection, by email, after checking the MDA;
4. in case of acceptance of the deposit by the curator, sign the MDA downloaded at point 2.
5. send the signed MDA, all related documents (PIC, MAT, MTA or IRCC, national or regional permits) and the strain/s to be deposited, to the DBVPG Collection at the following address:

Material Deposit Agreement (MDA)

The strains to be deposited must be sent in the form of fresh culture in exponential growth and in agar medium (possibly in a tube). Please pay the necessary attention in the construction of the shipping envelope, in order to ensure the arrival of the culture/s in safe conditions.

After the ordinary quality controls (viability and purity tests and conformity to the species reported in the attached information), an individual DBVPG number will be assigned to each strain.

For exchange with other service collections, the depositing institution will be able to obtain a strain from those listed in the DBVPG Collection catalogue for each strain provided for deposit in the DBVPG.

In addition to the deposit in the public collection, a paid long-term deposit service of confidential type (Safe Deposit) is available at the DBVPG Collection, for all depositors who want to maintain important cultures without renouncing to their exclusive ownership.

These strains will appear neither in the catalogue nor on the website database and will not be available for distribution to third parties (with the exception of specific instructions by the depositor). All information relating to the depositor and the nature of the deposited microorganism will be treated in the severest confidence. The deposited strains will be maintained in lyophilized form (if possible) and in frozen form at – 80°C.

Two types of safe deposit are possible: 5-years safe deposit or 30-years safe deposit. At the request of the depositor, it will be possible to interrupt the deposit at any time and ask the DBVPG Collection to destroy the stored material; the cost of the deposit will not be refunded.

Like to the deposit in the public collection, the DBVPG Collection accepts only yeasts and yeast-like organisms belonging to risk groups 1 and 2 according to the classification of Directive 2000/54/EC of the European Parliament, and of the Council of 18 September 2000 on the protection of workers against exposure to biological agents. Highly pathogenic microorganisms belonging to risk groups 3 and 4 cannot be accepted.

The depositor may, at any time during the Safe Deposit, request a copy of the strain/s which will be sent in fresh form, in slant.

Please, follow the instructions below to deposit one or more yeast or yeast-like organism/s as safe deposit:

1. fill the Safe Deposit Form; at the end of the filling work, the form will be automatically sent to the curator of the DBVPG Collection who will carefully evaluate the request;
2. download the newly completed Safe Deposit Form in pdf format;
3. wait for the authorisation to the deposit which will be sent to the applicant by the curator of the DBVPG Collection, by email, after checking the Safe Deposit Form;
4. in case of acceptance of the deposit by the curator, sign the Safe Deposit Form downloaded at point 2.
5. send the signed Safe Deposit Form and the strain/s to be deposited, to the DBVPG Collection at the following address:

Safe Deposit Form

The strains to be deposited must be sent in the form of fresh culture in exponential growth and in agar medium (possibly in a tube). Please pay the necessary attention in the construction of the shipping envelope, in order to ensure the arrival of the culture/s in safe conditions.

After the ordinary quality controls (viability and purity tests), an individual DBVPG number will be assigned to each strain characterized by a number followed by the letters SF, to distinguish them from the numbers of the strains present in the Public Collection. A certificate of deposit will be sent to the depositor which guarantee the deposit for the requested period (5 or 30 years).
